In terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation of 85 of 1993 as ammended, the Law compels Employers to "protect" the health and safety of the Employee by various means. Firstly by conducting a Risk Assessment based on what is seen o believed as being "reasonably practical" by a competent Person of the proposed task to be undertaken by the employee. Secondly, by providing training and any safety equipment that may be required by the employee before attempting to carry out that task
People accredited with this skills programme are able to represent employees on all aspects of Occupational Health and Safety, thereby excercising their rights and powers in terms of Mine Health and Safety Act 9 Act 29 of 1996), Section 25 (1), (2) and (3).
This skills programme may obtain credits towards the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NQF Level 2) in the mining and mineral Sector and related sub fields.
